I was overwhelmed with all the options in Berlin. There is so much to do and see while in Berlin that you’ll never have enough time to see it all. And this is especially true when it comes to art: Berlin has so many museums and galleries that it would take you a lifetime to see them all. All these museums and galleries combined with wonderful street art and an unstoppable artistic scene, make Berlin THE place to be when you’re into art. As an art geek I couldn’t have been more excited about going to Berlin this summer.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to explore Berlin’s massive art scene in depth, but there was on artistic highlight that I knew I couldn’t miss: The legendary East Side Gallery. The longest coherent piece of the former Berlin Wall that has been painted, sprayed, and tagged by artists from all over the world. The world’s largest outdoor gallery.
Since I was lucky enough to spend one of the hottest summer weekends of 2013 in Berlin, I could stroll along the kilometers of art at night: My feet in sandals, a cold beer in my hand, art as far as the eye could see, and gritty, buzzing energy of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg at night. This was one of the moments were I totally fell for Berlin — because what could be better than spending a hot summer night surrounded by art, creativity, and Berlin’s immensely cool urbanity?
Have you visited the East Side Gallery in Berlin? How did you feel about it?
