I can’t even believe it myself: Sateless Suitcase went live a year ago today. A platform for random travel-related musings of a clueless almost art historian — which I basically just started, because I really love procrastination. At least, I think that was my intention at first. I still remember how I excited I was when the very first person accidently stumbled upon my blog. It overwhelmed me that someone would actually care about what I have to say.

Since then, Sateless Suitcase and I have come quite a long way: Both still kind of clueless and still unsure of what the future has in store for us — but also with more ideas, more perspectives, more opportunities, more passion.

Sateless Suitcase One Year Blogiversary

This little blog has changed my life already. I still amazes me every day that there are people out there who actually read my words and listen to my advice (don’t say I didn’t warn you!). Sateless Suitcase gave me a new structure in life: Things I never even really saw before have now become picture-worthy and I even developed a major interest in food, because it’s actually a lot of fun to write about food!

I truly appreciate how my view of the world changed throughout the last year: Today, I don’t just live through the day, but I see stories and inspiration everywhere. Sometimes the words just “hit” me when I fall asleep or during a long train ride. Whereas the quality of those words might still be questionable at times, my excitement for this blog as my creative output is not. I love words and photography more than ever, and sharing them gives me a feeling of joy that I didn’t know before.

Sateless Suitcase One Year Blogiversary

This first year of blogging has been such an adventure: I learned so much about writing and photography (and was hopefully able to improve my skills!), and I even attended travel blogging conference which I didn’t even know existed a year ago. But most crucially: I met amazing people! There are so many talented, creative, and inspiring people out there and I enjoyed interacting with all of them so much — whether in real life or digitally.

So what’s up for the second year of blogging at Sateless Suitcase? To be honest, the year lying ahead of me and this blog has only one leitmotif: Uncertainty. I don’t know where I’ll be this time next year, I don’t if I’ll be “properly” working, or freelancing, or doing something entirely different that isn’t even on my radar right now. I do know that I will keep traveling. But there are also a lot of things going on in my life this very moment and I can promise that during the next weeks and months I will encounter a lot of life-changing opportunities. Nothing is completely settled yet, but I’m convinced that the fall of 2013 will become one of the most memorable times of my young life. Along with a visit to a new country, I will prospectively have to face a move to a new state and huge professional challenges during the next two months. The sheer level of “challenginess” of all these new challenges scares the heck out of me.

But for now, let’s focus on celebrating one year of travel writing, photographing, meeting people, and learning something new every day! One year! I can’t wait to see where year two will lead me!

And most importantly:
Thank YOU so much for reading and following along on my journey(s)!
Every comment, every retweet, every like means the world to me!
